Château de Castex

Domaine owned since 1789 by the family of the Baron of Saint Pastou and located in the region of Bas Armagnac, France. There is Ugni blanc cultivated in the vineyard. A month after the harvest, the white wine is distilled in pot stills Armagnacais, fed with wood fire. The high quality of the product is determined, in part, by the mild and humid climate, adequate exposure to wind and the sun, clay soil, the dark wood of black oak forests of the Domaine, used in the first stage of aging. Once acquired, during the first 3-4 years, its characteristic color from dark oak barrels and softened his alcohol strength, the wine is transferred into "dead" wooden barrels, which have lost their tannins. This process, linked to tradition, differs from common to the most part of Armagnac that uses two modern systems based on use of concrete and glass cuvee, exposed to sunlight, and containing wood chips for 10% of the total volume. This Bas Armagnac is characterized by an amber color and a rich aroma with a prevalence of plum, and the long aging softens the oak wood, the taste is full and the final is long. In addition to traditional types it is long-aged vintage product.
